Compare Vaxis Atom 600 KV and Atom 500 wireless video kits for RED Komodo. See which fits your monitoring setup, budget, and workflow.
Quick answer
For RED Komodo owners, the Vaxis Atom 600 KV is the purpose-built choice with a dedicated kit tailored to your camera, while the Atom 500 offers a more budget-friendly HDMI option for general monitoring.
Why the Atom 600 KV is built for RED Komodo
The Vaxis Atom 600 KV is specifically designed for the RED Komodo, ensuring compatibility with the camera's I/O and power options. This means less time rigging adapters and more confidence on set.
The kit includes both transmitter and receiver, so you can start monitoring wirelessly right out of the box. It's a streamlined solution for operators who want a reliable link without hunting for separate components.
Atom 500: A flexible HDMI alternative
The Vaxis Atom 500 is a 1080p HDMI wireless kit that works with any camera with an HDMI output, not just RED. It's a great choice if you switch between cameras or need a budget-friendly way to go wireless.
Since it uses HDMI in and out, it's straightforward to connect to a monitor or recorder. However, it lacks the RED-specific integration of the Atom 600 KV, so you may need additional cables or mounts for a Komodo setup.
Trade-offs to consider
- Compatibility: Atom 600 KV is tailor-made for RED Komodo; Atom 500 works with any HDMI camera but may require additional adapters for Komodo. If you only use a Komodo, the 600 KV simplifies your rig.
- Price: Atom 600 KV is priced at USD 1110, while Atom 500 is USD 457.50—a significant difference for similar wireless video functionality. If budget is tight and you don't need RED-specific features, the Atom 500 is the more economical choice.
- Signal and resolution: Both kits offer 1080p wireless video, but the Atom 600 KV is designed with RED's video output in mind, potentially offering more reliable sync and integration. For critical monitoring on a Komodo shoot, the 600 KV's tailored design may be worth the extra cost.
